The Japanese government has told the nation to prepare the country for another prolonged state of emergency. 

Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga is to restrict travel and clamp down on social events, following warnings from the the governors of Tokyo and three neighbouring prefectures that their region of Japan faces an increased threat from the virus. 

Just a few days previously, Mr Suga tried to calm fears by reassuring people the Tokyo Olympics would go ahead safely in July 2021.
